Timeless Elegance: Crafting the Perfect Wedding Look
A wedding is one of the most significant celebrations in a person’s life, and as a tailoring fitter, I have the privilege of dressing grooms for their special day. In this article, I’d like to recount a memorable wedding I had the pleasure of working on and perhaps offer some inspiration for those preparing for their own wedding.
It was a beautiful summer morning when I first met Damian and Louisa. From our initial conversation, I was struck by how well-prepared they were. They had done their research, knew exactly what they wanted, and were keen to discuss styling and details. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail made the experience incredibly rewarding for me.
The Idea
The plan was for Damian to wear an off-white dinner jacket with black trousers for the ceremony and then change into a black suit for the reception. Our aim was to design an outfit that was both special for the occasion and versatile for future use. Here’s how we brought it all together.
The Ceremony
Damian wore a dinner jacket in off-white barathea by Dormeuil. Traditionally, a dinner jacket has contrasting satin facings, which in this case would have been off-white satin. However, he opted for a plain option, so the buttons are wrapped in matching fabric. This styling keeps the traditional look of a dinner jacket while making it versatile for future occasions.
To balance the jacket’s minimal styling, the dinner shirt features pleats and black studs, which give depth and visual interest to the ensemble. Finally, the look is completed with black dinner trousers.
The Reception
During our consultation, I discovered that Louisa would be wearing a second wedding dress. Naturally, we needed to ensure the groom's attire was equally fitting for the occasion.
To maintain a classic and refined look, Damian chose a black three-piece suit in Fratelli Tallia di Delfino fabric. The suit features a single-breasted jacket with a peak lapel, elevated by a classic V-shaped vest, and anchored by a pair of black cap-toe oxfords.
We aimed to achieve a few things here: first, to complement Louisa's outfit, and second, to ensure Damian's look remained coherent. To elevate the style and add versatility, we included a vest. This way, if Damian chose to remove his jacket during the evening, he would still look sharp in his vest. Additionally, the peak lapel added a sophisticated touch that paired nicely with the bowtie.
As a result, Damian's outfit seamlessly matched the overall ambiance. In both looks, he appeared natural and perfectly complemented Louisa's wedding dress, exuding a classic yet versatile style. I can easily envision them both wearing these outfits again for their wedding anniversaries.
The wedding party photo turned out beautifully, with Louisa's bridesmaids and bridesmen dressed in blush pink and light sand, while Damian and his groomsmen were impeccably styled in classic formal wear.
Closing Thoughts
Dressing for the big day is simpler than it seems. Whether you choose classic formal attire or something more creative, understanding the basic guidelines of each dress code is key. Adding personal touches is what makes an outfit stand out. It’s the small, cohesive details that make you look and feel great.
Thank you, Damian and Louisa, for allowing us to be part of your special day and for sharing your photos. Wishing you both all the best for your future together.
